Day 2: Feeling Good | A little About The Low Carb Diet
Day 2 is almost over and I am more determined than ever. I still have cravings but I feel like a lot of them are more habit than actual need for the food. I just shake my head and say “oh yea, I’m not eating that anymore right now” and I am good. Today I even mad mac n cheese for my son and sure I wanted some for a second, but not as much as I want to get healthy and feel good. I had tuna and mayo instead. Yum!
In today’s video I go over the low carb diet a little and how to use ketone test strips.
What is a low carb Diet?
A low-carb diet limits carbohydrates such as those found in grains, starchy vegetables and fruit and promotes foods that are high in protein and fat.
I have done many different diets over the years and have always had the best results with a low carb diet. Once you get past the first weeks or so, your body has switched over to uses your stored fat for energy and you can loose weight faster. The cravings are not as strong or go away. Mentally I also feel it is easier because you can’t just cheat and say “oh, I will do better tomorrow”. That doesn’t work because it will put you out of ketosis and you will have to start over again. This tends to deter me from cheating.
What I eat on a typical day.
I usually eat eggs for breakfast sometimes with bacon. For lunch I will have a salad with chicken and cheese and a little bit of dressing. For dinner I have some meat like a hamburger patty or pork chop and broccoli or other vegetable.
Ketone test strips
Ketone urine testing strips (also called Ketostix or ketone sticks) are small plastic strips that have an absorbent pad on the end. The pad changes colors in the presence of ketones in the urine. They change colors from pink to purple depending on the amount of ketones and you can compare it to a chart on the bottle. The darker the better for low carb dieting, but it will fluctuate depending on the amount of water you are drinking.
You can purchase ketone test strips at any pharmacy for $10 to $15. They are usually kept in the diabetic section.
If this helps you and/or inspires you please let me know. I would love to hear from you.
